what does an unregistered Veterinary Assistant do?
Asked by chauntris
I wanted to know what an unregistered veterinary assistant does
because I saw a job opening for one. Is it like a receptionist or just cleaning out cages. what are there duties and what are they allowed to do?

Depends on the clinic/doctor. Usually the title Vet Assistant will do everything from cleaning cages, restraining animals for the doctor, taking some vitals, drawing blood, performing x-rays, giving meds, some will allow you to do IV's and dental cleanings. Like I said, depends on the doctor. I interviewed for a job where they didn't allow the vet assistants to do anything, not even patient history, they just put the patient in a room and that's it! But then every other doctor I've ever worked for let me do everything, except surgery and diagnoses.

probably cleaning out cages and such. call them and ask what the job details are.

Well i don't think there allowed to get into the pet meds. they just let the animals out, clean out cages and assist the doc. while there operating? Seems like it could be a cool job.
