I have a sales question regarding the amount of accounts a single sales person can manage effectively?
Asked by joconfidence
I am concerned with the Corporate ideals of doing more with less, in this case a large account base handled by less inside sales people. I would like to know some educated opinions from other sales professionals.

There are a lot of variables to your question. For instance, the turnover rate of the products you sell. Some customers may only need to be contacted about every 3 months while others could need a call weekly. The number of products you sell is another factor. If you make telephone calls to customers you should be able to make from 20-50 calls per day. Again, there are a number of factors in play. If your company is innovative and frequently comes out with new products then a call may take longer than those where the customer is familiar with the product and it is mostly a matter of replenishing current inventory.
