Hi Tyson, The first thing I would do is do some searching/asking around to find 5 potential contracting companies you could work for (or would like to work for). Make a list of the top 5 companies that you would like to work for. How do you find this out? Research them on the internet. Google the company names, google the industry in the Seattle area, etc. Once you have picked out 5 companies to focus on, take your cover letter and resume and personalize it to each company. Send them directly to a person at the company, and personalize it so that you're talking directly to that person in your cover letter. Then, MAIL your materials to the person, not email. Your focus should be on getting the attention of the companies, and more directly, the person who could hire you. This might sound like a lot of work, but you could actually knock it out in a couple of days. Then, be sure to follow up after you have mailed all of your materials out. I'd probably give it a week from the time you applied. When you call them, your attitude can be "Hi, it's Tyson. I applied for the construction job week, and was just following up to see if you had any questions." Simple as that. And if he says "No, we're still looking over applications," don't be afraid to ask, "That's fine. How about I call you next week just to check on the status?" Check out the link below to watch a video I created on the importance of getting attention. Hope this helps! Good luck!
