Jamie
What other Certifications and/or Program Completion Certificates look good on a resume for a CNA?
Asked by Jamie
I am going to become a CNA. Since I am just starting out and my resume will not be that impressive I wanted to know what I can do to bulk it up. Maybe a Phlebotomy program? Computer applications program? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

CNA is a very basic entry level medical position. They aren't going to expect much on paper from a CNA. What they will look for is a quality CNA training program and experience. Since you won't have the latter you could volunteer to add something else to your resume. It shows you are caring, compassionate and there for more than the paycheck. You will be required to be certified in Basic Life Skills (similar to CPR) so if you get certified in that prior to your CNA program (through the Red Cross, local fire department, etc.) you can also add that to your resume. Even if you were certified in other medical areas, like phlebotomy, that may look good in print but wouldn't be useful to your employer. Due to liability issues they most likely wouldn't have you performing cross duties like that. Save that schooling to build upon, rather than adding to, your education by completing additional classes that allow you to become an LPN.
Sister is in RN program and CNA course right now.
