Is it possible to land a part-time low level legal job in the said industry half way through a law degree?
Asked by PK
I'm starting a law degree this year. I was wondering if legal firms ever take on people part-time who are studying law as I want a decent paid part-time job related to what I am going to be studying.
Thanks in advance everyone!

Yes, you are describing a law clerk position. This is basically a job where you do work that is above what a legal secretary does, but below what an attorney does. It usually involves doing legal research and drafting legal documents -- under the supervision of an attorney.
Most law students do this during the summer during their second and third years. The pay is pretty high for law clerks who work for larger law firms. You should try to do this if at all possible.
The other option is to work for the smaller law firms near your school throughout the year. The pay is low, but higher than minimum wage. Most law schools will only let you do this during your second and third years though. It can be good experience.

I would not refer to it as an industry.
I used to help out as a clerk during the vacations, and received a nominal wage. Without qualifications or experience, one can hardly expect more.

I would also like a "decent paid part-time job related to what I have studied". Let me know if you find one.....................
OK, I have had enough fun - Seriously, to answer your question.........
If there is any way you can switch your major - do it NOW....
Warning! Jobs in the field of Law are drying up FAST!! This is NOT a good field to invest in!! Many reasons. Main reason?...We simply have WAY TOO MANY Legal Professionals - we have a GLUT. ("Legal Professionals" includes, but is not limited to: Attorneys/Lawyers, Paralegals, Legal Assistants, Legal Secretaries, Court Reporters, Bailiffs, etc, etc.)
The economy is SATURATED with Legal Professionals. The law schools know this, yet they continue to churn out graduates because law students are easy money for them.
So.....even IF you finish your studies in law school, you probably won't be able to find a job when you are done.
Suggestion: Consider the field of Healthcare! <<< LOTS of jobs there! and scholarships! ESPECIALLY with your background.
Good luck.
