Is an auto mechanic an easy job?
Asked by ohmywhatamessimin
I mean you just get one of those machines that you plug in and it tells you what is wrong. Then you change the parts and charge the customer.

I wouldn't think it would be that easy. There is a lot that you have to learn and as with anything it takes years of hands on experience to fully become a great knowledgeable auto mechanic.

it seems easy that way but if you don't want to move and bent your ass then its not for you.

It's a hard job. Usually the shop will charge the customer $80 or $90 an hour for labor but you don't get but 10 to 15% of that.
Also, a lot of shops use the labor guide for charging labor costs. So if the book says it takes 3 hours to change a water pump (the books are a little generous on time), you'll get paid for three hours of labor if you get it done in 2 hours or 4 hours.
Just because everything today is so inte-related and electronically controlled, doesn't make it any easier. It's hot, hard, difficult work by any standards.
