If you are an insurance agent, your goal should always exceed your quota. more sale means more income. In insurance you get your money through commissions.

All you need is to be licensed and have a lead source. Either generating leads through mailers, your website, or buying leads. You don't have to work for any specific agency, you can be independent. As far as how much do agents make, it's a commission based job so it's going to vary from $0 to a few hundred thousand a year for the higher end agents. If you're good with sales, you can buy leads from http://www.allwebleads.com/ and get a really good close rate to make good money.
