Career choices, what classes to take?
Asked by Casey
Ok, yes I know I need to talk to a counselor but I want more opinions. I have three things that I know I want to per-sue. One is Automotive engineering. I love mechanics but I don't want to be the guy under the hood, I want to be the designer and creator. Ill still take mechanic classes tho but what else can I take in a community college before I head off to University in a year? Its not about the credits to me, its about the knowledge. Second thing I want to per sue is the medical field. I don't want to be a doctor, but maybe a nurse... But either way i'm in the Army and I want to get as much knowledge as possible so when my battle buddy's go down around me I can save them. And third I want to be a public speaker. I like to be involved in the happening in the government and the thing that happen around me. I have so much to say and I just don't know how to put it into words. What classes can I take for this?
Thanks everyone, all help is very appreciated!

Wow, it sounds like you have several different fields that you want to explore. Honestly, it sounds like you need either a double major or a very strong minor in order to satisfy your requirements. I would consider looking into maybe an engineering degree with a minor in biology or nursing? In most colleges and universities they make you take a public speaking course so that would take care of everything for you.
Ultimately you want to have the most choices available. Do yourself a favor and get the education before the army. Joining the services is a great honor, but if you are this dedicated it sounds like you are an ideal candidate for an officer school of some sort. And normally one of the requirements there is a college degree.

Ask your Sargent if you can take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Test Battery). Take advantage of any classes that may be offered to you while in the army. Find out what you can qualify for in educational programs in the service, and how the army can help you to pay for education after you complete your enlistment.
Learn all you can about the job you are presently doing in the army and find out how you can use those skills in the civilian world.
Good luck to you and thank you for your service to our country.
