Jenni D
Should I get a second job?
Asked by Jenni D
I am 17 and outta school cause i graduated early and i work at KFC already, but i am moving out in July, going to college in August in a different city and getting married in September. My boyfriend doesn't have a job and we only have one car. At KFC I make like 298 dollars every two weeks and work nights. I could get a day job at a telemarketing company making like 500dollar paychecks every two weeks. Should I get the second job and work 13 hours a day and see if it will convince my boyfriend to get a job so i could quit. I have tried for months to have him get a job but so far he hasn't.

You're 17, still a minor so there is a lot of red tape around you working a second job. One of the more beneficial things for you to do is to move up in the world; that is make the jump from fast food to retail if you can. Average wages for retail are higher than for fast food. With the current economy, it might be difficult but definitely start looking (especially in grocery stores). Or you can take the telemarketing job, but definitely not both. This is just my personal opinion, but if your boyfriend and you plan on getting married, he should be working or at the very least making an active effort to find employment. You're 17 and no boy or man is worth you having to work 2 jobs to support him. Go to college, forget him and maybe pick yourself up someone who will work.

You want good advice? Dont get married. Go to school full time. Make your boyfriend do the same. Once you both get out of college, get real jobs. Then get married. Then do whatever you want.

No, don't take a second job. If you are already having your boyfriend depend upon you financially, don't expect that will improve when you get married. Keep your finances separate from his as long as possible, and think it over carefully before you assume financial responsibility for him.

Why would you even considering some guy who is content to let you work 2 jobs and go to school and support him as well. is this how you want to spend the rest of your life? Honestly, rethink getting married....he will not change after marriage.

I wouldn't get married to a guy that doesn't even have a job. Why should you get a second job while he doesn't have any job. You will just be supporting him. Make your boyfriend get some type of a job.

Explain to him that at seventeen, you shouldn't be the one taking on all these jobs! However, I think that you should get the second job, it looks a lot better, and encourage him to get the KFC job. He seriously should be helping you money-wise! Congratulations by the way! =] Goodluck! xx
