Career Questions and Answers
I need career advice. Can anyone help? Take 2.?
Asked by Joseph F
Hey everyone. My name is Jay, I'm 33 and live in NYC. I lost my job back in December due to the economy? I've always had a job but never a career. In my last line of work, I was a building maintenance engineer. Although it was a great job and the people I worked with and for were great, I always felt it wasn't the right line of work for me. All my life I kind of fell into jobs where I got the "hook up" type deal and never really gave a thought on what I really wanted to do. Now, it's that time where I have to sit and think to myself what exactly is it I want to do as in a career. I've asked family, friends and former co-workers for advice. I've even visited a few schools to see what they're offering. I would have never thought it would be this difficult to figure out what career I might be interested in. Does anyone out there in Yahoo!Land have any advice or any suggestions in career choices. I would really appreciate it.

Hi Jay, I'm sorry to hear you lost your job. I don't know how to give you advice other than to tell you to sit down and think about what you would enjoy getting up and doing 5 days out of the week. Also consider how much money you want to make, and how much (if any) schooling you are willing to go through. A good place to research careers is the Occupational Outlook Handbook (search for it on google/yahoo). This will give all info for any career - salary, schooling, working conditions, job outlook, and all that good stuff. Hope this helps, and good luck in your search!!
