Tips for changing career paths from office to social work?
Asked by Amanda C
I am getting ready to graduate college in May with a BS in General Studies. I have always held regular office clerical jobs but due to some volunteer experience I want to switch gears and get into the social work field and work for non-profits like Boys and Girls Clubs of America. How can I make this kind of a career change with little experience and a General Studies degree?

You will have to get a degree in social work if you actually want to work as a social worker. If you just want to work in the same field as social worker but not have the job title of "social worker" you can still work for the boys and girls club doing other things. You can get a certificate in counselling i believe, but not sure. But if you're serious about social work, you will need to transfer your credits over and will probably have to do another 2 years of university in order to get a social work degree. As a side note, i graduated with my master's in social work this summer and STILL haven't landed a good job, but maybe that's just my luck.

You can always apply to a MSW program and get a Master's. That really depends on your finances and if you want to spend more time in school, tho.
