Do Background Checks Show Past Jobs?
Asked by Pandora'sCaul
Do background checks show past employment? I have read several people saying no, only criminal history, social security number, aliases, and sometimes credit history, BUT I also see several people saying yes, jobs do show.

It depends on what the employer checks. Credit checks don't show past jobs, because they're basically pulling a credit report, but background checks are investigations that look at your past employment as well.

I think I know what you real question is and you can relax, the potential employer is told nothing about what went on at previous employers and even who they are.
A background check is simply to verify if you are "bondable", that is, can you be trusted with money or financial data. It's a criminal check the potential employer is simply informed whether or not you passed. If you fail it, they are not told why, just that you failed the check.
As for past employers, that is what the reference checks are for. You submit the list and names. For a standard position, no employer bothers to search out your past employers anonymously. Only very senior positions, i.e. senior manager, VP, president, ... some employers may anonymously seek out there own references. Otherwise, they don't bother.
You can relax.
