Why isn't the security guard profession given any kind of respect?
Asked by nineonesixtoninefiveone
I am a security guard and we are shown no respect and treated like second class citizens people ignore us when we ask them to do things, we are assigned to do non security related tasks by our clients we are threatened with losing our jobs if we don't do this and don't do that we are basically treated like the scum of the earth why?

I think that people see security guards under a stereotype of "police officer wannabees" who lack the training and skill to handle the weapons and cases that real police do. They might also see security guards as "lacking power" because they cannot enforce the law, do not have the same weapons, and cannot take people into custody. This is not me personally, but this is a stereotype that a lot of people probably do agree with.
