So a dental hygienist really makes more money than a registered nurse?
Asked by MonieBoo87
Say for example, two people fresh out of college. One is to be a Registered Nurse, the other to be a Dental Hygienist. They both find a job. The nurse decides to work at a hospital and the other is to work in a dentists office. Starting out, which one is making more money?? Thanks

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make over and over again is taking a job just for the money. Personally, aside from the money, I would choose nursing. There's so many different areas you can go into and many more responsibilities so you'll never get bored. They do make about the same about. There's upside and downside to both. Nursing I already stated. Hygientist would be less stressful, better hours and not being on your feet all day.

No hygienists make about the same as a nurse or less. Usually nurses can make more money than a hygienist.
Also right now with the economy it is hard to find a hygiene job. Because when people lose their jobs they lose their dental insurance. And the first thing people will stop doing is getting professional cleanings at a dental office.
I am a hygienist, graduated last year and I havent been able to find work until this past Jan! And I only work 1 day a week because I cant find more work than that.
Nursing is a better profession. Hospitals and nursing homes always need nurses in the USA. Starting out nurses and hygienists make about the same money. It also depends on where you live. Higher pay as you look for work closer to major cities.
