Ryan k
Im on unemployment, what happens if I work for one weekend?
Asked by Ryan k
I am currently claiming UI, but my employer asked me if I wanted to work this weekend. This should get me about 20 hours of work. If I did work this what would happen with my unemployment. Would I not be able to receive it anymore? After this weekend I probably will not work for this employer for at least another month or two. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, report the income when check has been received. A pay check could take a few weeks to reach you. Investigate if this amount would be appearing on a 1099 for you because this would depend on the company's accounting method (the way they cut the check) to pay you.

You have to report your hours and earnings. It will be deducted from your benefits for the week. Be sure to let them know that it was only for one/two days, not a rehire or new job.
