Are skilled labor workers who work wage labor jobs (carpenters, plumbers, etc) ignorant in general?

I've seen this behavior before and this review on CareerCritique for electricians made me think that this may not be the best career for me: http://www.careercritique.com/addcomments.php?cid=50 What do you guys think? Will I just get used to it or does it depend on their age and some other factors too?

If you have to pay them to do those things for you. Does that mean they are smarter than you. I have meet people with Phd's that knew nothing about anything outside their field.

I have seen book smart people that couldnt pound a nail in a board. Book smart people that had no practical common sence. Being a construction worker, we all try to have fun and not everyone in the trades is smart as we would like. stupid people everywhere.
