Retail sales...is a sales associate at any retail location. Sears, Kmart, Walmart, Office Depot, Staples, Officemax, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. Place like that. It's simply asking for your relevant experience working doing that. Merchandising is basically the fancy term for stocking and pricing items on the shelves in stores. Sales associates usually do a little of this and also sales in their positions. But if you're applying for a retail place and they are asking for experience that you don't have - you won't get that job with this crazy economy. I'm not being mean...but if you don't have any retail experience, it will be nearly impossible to get. I just got turned down for a simple job at a store and I've got 3+ years of both retail sales and merchandising experience. There are a lot of people out with there with 10+ years of experience getting most of the lower paying jobs nowadays.
