What could I do to pursue a career in gaming?
Asked by 1
I'm only 14 but want to get a head start on my future which i hope is in gaming. I would be happy with a position as a QA Tester, Marketing Manager, Associate Producer, or Game Designer. Any ideas of what I could do to get a head start?

You can't just become a producer, you have to have experience in all aspects of the industry - programming, designing, testing etc, to even come close to becoming a producer, and then you need to have a good reputation. You should think about what specific area you actually want to go into, are you a naturally talented artist/designer? or are you very good at maths and programming? Most jobs in the industry require you to be either a designer or programmer. If neither of these areas are right for you then you could go into marketing, but that wont involve making games, just making adverts and publicity for the games that other people have made. Testing games doesn't pay very well, and is usually what newbies to the industry start doing to show interest and get some experience. So for now I would try and get some testing work - even voluntary testing work if you wish to get a head start - this way if you go on to do a gaming course in college you can say that you have been a tester for the last few years (which will look good). Ultimately you need to know what you will be best at - designing or programming.
