How does one get involved in a plumbing apprenticeship?
Asked by operaphantom2003
I would like to be a plumber and was told I would need to complete an apprenticeship. How do I find one? I always thought they preferred young guys (not 33 year old women) in apprenticeships. I have called my local job service but they said they only help those on assistance.

Contact your local plumbers trade union. They usually provide the training to become a journeyman plumber. I am an electrician who went through the electricians apprenticeship program which was provided by the union. I might emphasize that you will need a good background in mathematics like algebra, geometry, and trigonometry since most apprenticeship programs look at math heavily.
Me - my experience and training.

If there is a Vocational High School or a Community College in your area that prepares people to enter trades, you should express your interest to them. You might check a local city directory, or ask at your library, about a trade organization for plumbers in your city. Some plumbers might enjoy having a mature individual interested in learning that line of work and welcome you to study with them. You won't know if you don't ask them, and it could lead to an opportunity for you.
