I'm just starting out as an insurance advisor in Canada (since Sept. 08) so things are slow for me. That said, my boss, who has been in the business for over 30 years had his best quarter ever for Oct - Dec 08.

insurance? please! last year, i found most of these jobs and then i told my family and friends, and they all answered me "NO, the economy is quite bad and this kind of job is getting worse! no! anything but that!"
personally, i dont think it is a good job cause this is a stressful job and the pay is not consistent! u have go there, and here and there again and again and again etc. by then , your petrol oil will be finished without any gaining in your sales! i prefer some job like retail sales! at least u can stay in there and the customers will come to u! not u go to them! that will make things easy!

A ROTH IRA is an investment product, not an insurance product. I realize many people sell both, but in this economy its important to make the distinction.
The sales of investment products are down right now because most people are focused more on saving their money in things like savings account to build up an emergency fund in case they get laid off. A few investors are taking advantage of low prices and buying, but they are the exception not the norm.
Insurance sales are actually doing fine in this economy. The need for insurance doesn't change if the economy changes. Most people see it as an essential expense right up there with food and housing, so its one of the last things to get cut from people's personal budgets
If you are getting into it, I suggest you focus first on insurance sales and worry about the investment aspect of it after your insurance sales are strong.
