Will a possession of marijuana charge keep me from getting a job at WalMart?
Asked by Joelolly
I just went to WalMart and they are doing a background check. On the application it only asks if you were convicted of a felony or violent crime. Mine is just a misdemenor. On the background check paper they ask you to list all crimes. I put the possession charge. If anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

I just recently got a ticket in nevada for posession of marijuana and i have been called 5 times this week for an interview at walmart. You should be alright for an entry level position. I would not have even told them that i had the charge but if they ask be sure to tell them. Make sure also when going in for the interview to A:be clean so you can pass a drug screening(most likely urine its the cheapest route for the company)or B:you can go to your local head shop or order synthetic urine off of the internet so you can pass a urine test. It will come with heating pack and temp gauge so you can get it to average human core temperature(98-101 should do). Also be sure that if they dont give you a drug screening in the interview be sure to have those options open for at least the first two weeks of employment.
The good ole noggin(thats me =D)

Walmart alone can say whether they will use this to decline to offer a job. Often if there are two similar candidates and one has a minor blemish that will be a discriminant.

If this is your only legal problem then you should be fine.If it works against you then I'm sorry. What you should look into is expungement to eradicate this from your record so it never shows up in the future. It's usually free or it will it's no more than 60 bucks. Also, depending on where you are some states don't require you to list minor weed related charges.
