How young can you be to get an apprenticeship as a mechanic?

I'm going to turn 16 this April and i live in Texas. I've wanted to be mechanic since i was about fourteen, but I don't know how old i have to be to become a apprentice. I don't have the benefit of high school programs either, because I'm home schooled. How old would I have to be? I'm going to graduate a little before I turn 17.

look up tech schools in your area.they should be in the yellow pages.find out if they have a program for auto mechanics,they should be able to help you or send information to you.also some auto dealers can give you information,they may have a program they can refer you to.good luck.
