Why are nursing home employees overworked yet underpayed?
Asked by Supernova
I've been a nursing home dietary aide for a week now and it is no wonder this particular nursing home I work for is "always hiring". The administrator is a son of a bitch. I'm doing the job of two people, yet I don't get a break at all because of the work load, and I DON'T GET PAID FOR OVERTIME.

It's the greed of those on top. Those that don't do the work but get all the profit from the work of others. Always hiring is a bad sign but keep on looking while you're employed there. That bad job is still resume worthy. The same job with another company might be the job you are longing for. Make it work for you, make it a learning experience and make time to look for a better employer. A better job awaits you.
I have a passion for what I do and I refuse to let those in charge limit me. It's been 6 months and they are still asking me to come back

You are not the only one. My sister was a CMA and complained about the same thing, and my baby sister just grad. CMA school. It is a hard job putting up with the elderly, some can not take care of there selves some are to set in there ways, and some will help you out if given a chance. It can be hard and dirty work few are willing to do. As far as pay, its like everywhere else, GET THE MOST FOR YOUR BUCK, the same problem is with out teachers and police officers, they don't get paid enough for what they have to do and put up with. Hang in there and do not give up, you are in a good career field with a future.

Honestly, I'm hearing that more and more. Less people are working, and those that are, are working 70 hours a week. Crazy economic times, I'll tell you. What's better, I guess? working too much, or not at all?
