Is there a difference between a registered dental assistant and a dental hygienist?
Asked by ♥ Puggle Person ♥
Is a registered dental assistant at the bottom of the degree's? Which pays more and are there any positions besides those and of course the dentist? I would want to work with an orthodontist. Thanks! what dragon??

The Dental Hygenist has a specific job to do and they do it independently (though integrated with) the Dentist. The Dental Assistant assists the Dentist, but doesn't do anything on their own. The RDA is at the bottom of the rung, yes. The Hygenist probably gets paid for, but it would depend on the office you work for. As for other positions, they're pretty career-oriented. You could always go for a dental degree later if you wish. And both positions would allow you to work with an Orthodontist, but the Hygenist would probably have an easier time learning the work of an RDA.
