How long should it take a company with one HR manager to check references?
Asked by brubbletrubble
I know there is no set answer to this question, but I was wondering what the average time (or how long is too long) for an HR manager to check references. I do know the company (75+ employees) is expanding and that they are hiring for every position and that this HR rep is in charge of everything. Also, when would be agood time to follow up? i know my refs have not been contacted yet

There is no set time - if they are expanding and there is only one HR person, they might be swamped - but this does not mean to wait on them to contact you. Have you interviewed or just applied? If you have interviewed, send a thank you note ASAP. Wait a few days after that and follow up with a 'Hi, I'm checking on my status in the hiring process' If you only applied, contact them and ask what the status is of your application. As a side note, references are not always contacted. Seriously.

They will probably attempt contract within a week but if they don't get a response might not get back to them. Call your references to see if they were contacted yet.
