What additional education or training do you need to become a registered nurse?

It depends on what state you live in. Most people I know who are nurses or in school for RN go to school for 2 years, which includes clinicals and time in the field, and then have to pass nursing exams.

a degree either a BSN or ASN, preferably a BSN. then a passing score in the state exam for being a registered nurse. clinical experience comes from the training in your degree as well as work experience.
