Does a human resource manager ever work night shifts?
Asked by alwayswondering
perhaps a silly question but do hrm's ever have a 'night shift' schedule? I chose this field of study because I want a good career, good pay and no nights. Thank you!

The Human Resources Manager guides and manages the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for the entire company. His job includes recruiting and staffing; employee orientation, development, and training; policy development and documentation; employee relations; employee safety, welfare, wellness and health; and employee services. All this can be effectively managed during day shift only. Coordination with departments like finance, negotiations with trade unions etc., can only be carrird out in day shift only.

It is possible if you work in a warehouse setting.. companies where there is someone working 24/7. Usually HR's don't work night shifts, you may be required to work at night 1 or 2 nights a week.

A:
Depends upon the size of the Company. If there are several hundred people on the night shifts then there is a good possibility that there would be an H.R. Representative on those shifts. Normally, and in most Companies H.R. is 1st shift. When an activity occurs on the off shifts, H.R. needs to be there. Sometimes on all three (3) shifts.

No, I have a hard time believing they do. I work in a pretty big hospital, where HR is always really busy...and they never work past 4:30 or 5.

an HR mgr? - very doubtful - possibly an HR specialist/rep, if the company is huge and has a big 3rd shift (500+ employees on 3rd shift)
