These are 3 totally different levels within the hospital. Receptionist: Phones, scheduling, filing, the initial 'face of the hospital' Assistant: cleaning, restraint, charges, surgery prep, etc Tech: discharges, anesthetics, lab work, surgery assistance As stated before, chances are the more education or licensure you have, the more you'll be paid.

Generally for any type of profession, the more education it requires then the more it pays. Vet tech takes more education than receptionist, so it would pay more. Same reason a doctor gets paid more than a nurse, etc.

The Vet Tech/Assistant requires specific technical skills and certification. A receptionist answers the phone and provides general information. Jobs that require technical skills tend to pay more money.
