Laboratory Assistant Job Advice?

I am going to graduate from a degree at University College London this summer reading Biomedical Sciences. I would appreciate advice on going about getting a job in the field especially one in a Laboratory. I don't want this 3 years to be wasted working in the hotel I have been working part-time to supplement my student loan. Helpful answers please!
