What can I expect at a Food Service Employee class?
Asked by LittleKarlyPilkoids
I'm going to start working in a deli soon and will need to get my food handler's license. I'm told the class is easy to pass; is it a one-day class only? What does one do? This is in the US, by the way.

All the common-sense things that someone would do if they were cooking for their family at home. No ant poison near the serving area (that sounds so silly until you go to a restaurant and see it). The biggest thing i wish they would teach is for waiters and counter-help to not put their fingers at the top of the glass when serving drinks..

you will learn proper tempuratures of meats to be cooked, proper cleaning procedures (three sinks in a restaurant) and also hygeine procedures. They will scare you with all of the nasty infections and illnesses that people can catch from food-born germs. You will likely learn things like proper storage solutions and fridge/freezer tempuratues. Also, age limitations on serving alcohol. Yes, the test is easy to pass, just pay attention.

It is a bunch of boring crap that is basic common sense stuff but unfortunately lots of morons out there work in the food service industry so its probably a good thing.
