How should I start a cover letter off applying for a pharmacy technician position?

Should I introduce myself stating my name? I know I need to state any previous experience with providing health care services and other stuff but that's all I can think of. Should I say "hello, my name is [name] and I am applying for a pharmacy technician position". I'm not certified but I am taking a program at a nearby community college that will prepare me for the certification test and the job. I know to include that but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Most larger companies request that you simply submit a resume online. To be honest, I have never submitted a cover letter when applying for a job - and it hasn't really stopped me from getting the job. Just build your resume using your school's info. and any previous work experience. Since you are new, start looking to volunteer/intern to build up experience. Most programs will find you a job even before you finish the program & become certified. Larger hospital pharmacies pay more and offer a variety of positions than retail pharmacies. Personally I would suggest that you start interning in a hospital pharmacy. Most likely they will consider hiring you once a position opens up since they are familiar with your work ethic. Tips for the exam. Since you're new to pharmacy, be sure you are familiar with pharmacy math (ratios, proportions, etc.) as well as brand/generic names, drug classes & a small amount of law regarding narcotics, CII refills, forms, etc. The test will incorporate parts of retail as well as hospital settings. A cover letter is supposed to give a brief expansion on one's resume which is why one should always send a cover letter along with a resume. I don't believe that one needs to include his or her name in the body of the letter as one's name is to be signed at the bottom of the letter. I also would Not word that "you are not certified" as that may highlight that fact, but perhaps try to word in a more positive way such as including how you "are currently in a nearby program for pharmacy technician at 'name of community college'". (If program is accredited) "The program is accredited by the ...' and the coursework is preparing me for certification."
