If I want to be known by a pseudonym in the UK, are there are any legal aspects I should be aware of?

I want to be known by another name, but I'm not sure that in the UK I can be known by this name in work and whether you can get official ID with a pseudonym upon it! Can anyone enlighten me as to the rules and regulations behind going with an alias?

Well, it wouldnt work in the work place as they have to pay your wages into your bank account (under your real name) and you have to pay national insurance and tax (under your real name, obviously) Officially it wouldnt work. You would have to change your name legally by deed poll. You cannot get official ID in a different name any other way. You can request your colleagues call you by any name you like, though!

In the UK you can choose any name that you like without having to notify anyone, however it becomes a problem at times when you need to prove id, such as when opening bank accounts or applying for a passport. In order to do that, you would need to change your name by deed poll.

You can start calling yourself anything you want people to call you perfectly legally ,your pseudonym is only a legal requirement on official documentations.In this case you must legally change the current name to your new one by Deed Poll ,any Solicitor can do this for you.
