wal-mart assistant manager training?
Asked by Rob A
I am starting the Assistant Manager Training program on Monday and I was wondering if anyone has been through it? What is it like? Please no "Wal-Mart is the Devil" Stuff. I got laid off from Circuit City and Wal-Mart is the best option I have had.

My husband was an dept manager, support manager, and risk control lead for 8 years and an assistant manager for 3 years. He just recently quit......it's good pay but he would work 16-18 hour shifts a day I have a 3,2,and 10mth old. He was at one of the worst stores in the district prob the region with the highest turnover rate and no matter what he would do the store never really got better. It all depends at the store that you are at before accepting any offers I would research the store you are going to be at because if you get stuck at a bad one then you can't transfer out for a year in most cases......and it will be hard to not get a d-day depending on the store manager. His was always trying to save his a** so he wrote everybody up on technicality paperwork.....like you'll get a checklist with about 52 things to do and if you forgot to do one of them.....there's your write up. When he started the assistant manager training program it was more extensive. They had to do public speaking training, write reports, essays, take tests. Now he said it's alot easier to get into and they don't do as much so I wouldn't worry everything now is alot more hands on training. Just please be selective of where you're going. I wouldn't mind him going back just because of the pay, but he wanted to try some sales job right now even though he has to work his way up now and the next opening for management is in a year. He can always go to cvs, walgreens, burlington, ross, or anywhere but he got burnt out. I would just be real weary. Do your research.

I am a Customer Service Manager at wal-mart so ill give you a rundown of what I know happens. First, its pretty much just a basic rundown of what you should and shouldnt do, policy, guidelines, handling of matters, etc. Then you will be on the front end learning how to run that (Thats the part I trained assistant managers on) . You learn to run all departments of the store, go through some training exercises, videos, etc, and youre done. (From what i can tell) I doubt it will be hard. Congratulations on the job :D
