Good jobs let you work on the land?
Asked by Sky
So I live in the city and hate it, i figured i would work off the land with some animals. What are some good farming/ranching jobs i could do that would pay well other than crop growing that i would be able to do in a few years? (i'm only 14 right now... so maybe in 7 years, around 2015 in and around Calgary Alberta or High River) What courses/schooling should i take in order to do this?

I was raised on a ranch in montana, and when I graduated i was gone. Its hard work with little pay unless you own your own place. People who work for someone else do it because they like the outdoors the rewards of seeing there labor develop into something. It can be a rewarding job if that is what you are looking for. Its not for all, but if you want to go that route you still need to graduate from high school. Ranch/farm hands make about $1500 to $1800 a month, but usually includes room and board. Remember that's usually seven days a week and 24 hours a day during calving season. Otherwise go to college and get a agriculture degree and tell everyone else what to do. Not many jobs out there for that though so study hard and get good grades.

Farming and ranching jobs are very hard work.
You wouldn't like it..... why do you think there are less and less farms each year?
I don't know a whole a lot about farming.... I live in the city too.
Finish up high school....
Take 4 English classes
3 math, science, and history
Get a 3.0 GPA or higher
And get a high score on the ACT or SAT
If you accomplish that, you can become anything you want. School, until college, is to prepare you for any job.
Good luck
