Is it possible to psychologist AND a psychiatrist?

Because when I'm older... I want to be a be a psychaiatrist but also act as a psychologist. 'Cause like psychologists get to talk to their patient and give advice and help them verbally Psychiatrst just prescribe medicing, do they not? So can I do both?

They are different career paths. In some states psychologists can now prescribe meds...other states are following. Usually a psychologist is in practice with an MD, so recommends what meds, MD writes script.....psychologists are trained in therapy, including the use of meds. Psychiatrists are MDs with a year of psychological training. Go to apa.org to read more about the different types of psychologists. You will need 4 years of undergrad, then 6-7 of graduate study, then pass a licensing exam (state controlled). Both psychiatrists and psychologists do therapy. Projections have psychiatrists decreasing, and psychologists increasing. (psychology professor)
