How do I gain experience in information technology field while working full time?

I need suggestions please on how and where I can gain experience in the information technology field while working full time in an unrelated field. I'm going to school earning my degree but I want to gain some experience under my belt before I graduate. Anything helps - voluntary, paid part time work, unpaid, evening internships.

The thing is, you say you are working full time. I guess this means the only time you have free is weekends. Trust me, there is not much going on during the evenings. Your best bet is to visit a book store and find some related books. You can also look into taking some weekend courses at a local community college. Good luck!
