Unfortunately, there aren't supposed to be too many jobs for the medical biller or coder (or medical assistant) despite what those private $$ tech schools say. My cousin had gotten laid off from her medical billing job of five years due to the company outsourcing to Asia/India. It's a pretty common trend these days.
To try obtaining a clerical job, perhaps look into the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college that offers medical office assistant or such. It doesn't guarantee a position but acquiring new skills may help one's marketability though with such competition nowadays and so many graduates of billing, coding and MA programs.
General career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'secretaries and administrative assistants', 'billing clerks' or such.

You would also be able to do medical office jobs, like a secretary or receptionist. It is hard to break into the coding/billing field though, as most employers require experience.

There are two different certificates. One as a "Medical Billing Specialist" the other is for medical coding. You take national exams to get them. Call the medical billing company and see what they require for the job you want.
