How do you become a handy man?
Asked by kalistburg
I am interested in a temporary job as a handyman, mostly for a form of income while in school, and because I love having random skills and abilities. How would I go about learning the basics of things that I may need to know how to do or learn to do?

Handymen learn with hands on experience. Someone in the property maintenance business could need someone to help out. Getting on with someone as a helper and learning tricks of the trade can get you to the "handyman" level. If you think maybe flooring try laminate or tile, both are doable and if you take pride in your work and do it right, it's very hard to screw anything up. If you are thinking maybe building fences or decks is more what you'd like to touch on then start with the basics and don't reach for the three tier decks with angled stairs. If you work for $15.00 hour cash, often you can help out people that just need the help. Check a classified website or newspaper and make the phone calls. Often people need someone to do odd jobs just don't have the time or patients but do have the money.
