I have not had to job hunt for a while now and I was looking for some new strategies?

I've been worker as a machine operator for the last 10 years and I was laid off 3 weeks ago. 10 years ago I could walk into a shop, state my name and purpose, fill out an application, and shake the owner's hand, but now no one is hiring due to the economy. I've tried all the online employment sites, temp. agencies, etc. I'm not complaining or anything, but anything helpful advice or insight you may have, would be appreciated. Thank you.
