How can I become a great respiratory therapist?
Asked by SadToday22
I currently work as a Respiratory Technician and I am about to enter a Respiratory Care Program through a University to become a therapist. I have such a passion for this field. How do I make sure I do great in school and become a great therapist? I currently have an associates in applied science for medical assisting and I am also working on a Bachelors of Science in Health Care Management while I am waiting to start this RT program. Once I start the RT program I will cut back to 1 BS class a semester until I am done with the RT program just to ensure I do well in the course work. Any suggestions on how to become a great RRT???

stay full time get A's Connect with people that you know will give you advice I think RRT is the 2nd certification needed. With the way things are going I'll think you'll do great. Just find the requirements needed. I know all that's needed is an Associates in the resp. care. It's offered at my community college and is only about 75 credits or so. Than after that one could go straight to work. You probably already know this. Same with an EMT too. But they don't make as much and I heard it's not as worth wild as people say it is. Sounds okay that your cutting back 1 class semester to keep your grades up. Just make sure your staying full time. Related things of interest if you have the time: Your local EMS trains volunteers most likely as they do near me. They do it at an academy and you can become a paramedic which is pretty cool. Also the military has a lot of opportunities. Im thinkin of joinin the coast guard to become a health service technician as a reservist. They train you in California for 3 months(in anatomy and physiology, etc) plus boot camp. But the needs of the military come before schooling. But it would only be for a few years. Plus after you get your bachelors you would be set at E-4 I think which is like 25k a year. Other than me driftin off the answer, RT seems like a cool job. I saw a video on you tube where RT's were jumpin out of helicopters to aid people which appealed to me a lot. =D My mom has chronic asthma so it seems like taking care of people's lungs would make a meaningful profession. good luck to ya, and I make sure your name is on the waiting list if they have it at your college too! Mines a year and a half wait. And that's just the community college.
