What are the chances of a dentist hiring a MALE dental hygienist?
Asked by Tom G
I'm a male and looking into this profession in becoming a dental hygienist what are the chances of a male being hired? And also how much years in college would you particularly need?

Best Answer:
about 2 years of pre-reqs, then you have to go through a 2 year associate degree dental hygiene program. so total out the door: 4 years. As far as "hiring a male" goes, it would be illegal for a dentist not to hire you because of your gender, its callled discrimination. Its sorta like males going into nursing now-a-days, the hospitals actually look to hire them first so to look like they are unbiased and have "minorities" meaning males, latinos, blacks, etc. it is actually going to be in your favor if you go the dental hygiene route!
been there done that
