Should I quit my job?
Asked by hs
I work part-time right now as a clinic clerk. Only thing I could find. Really dislike the job because of the reception duties mainly. But I love every other task. I'm trying to stick it out till I find something else. I might just be able to get a job in a warehouse stacking shelves and it would be full-time. I've done it before when I was in uni on a part-time basis but had to quit. But I really enjoyed it. Do you think its a good idea to take it...? I mean its going from an office job to stacking shelves. But I want to study for my AAT course (accountancy) and feel this light job would be perfect. I also need to sort my life out. My anxiety isn't really helping my concentration at work. My psychiatrist said I have extreme anxiety and said I should go on CBT. My doctor said he will help me. I don't want to take a sick leave. I want to work but I want to take something I can manage. I don't have a job in accounting yet. I am a clinic clerk. Which basically involves reception duties. Once I finish my course I can find something in accounting.

I understand why you might think that it's not good to go from office work to stacking shelves, but personally, when it's only a job whilst you're studying and is not career-related, I would say just do whatever you enjoy. BUT ... *never* quit a job without having a new one lined up. Go ahead and apply for the warehouse job, but don't quit your other job until you've got it.

How does stacking shelves compare to accounting? Well don't quit yet. You should apply for as many jobs that you see interesting and only when you get hired is when you should quit your current job. Do not quit without having something else lined up!
