Can a person be a graphic designer without a graphic design degree?
Asked by LT
I am a student that has taken graphic design courses this year and I like it. I am in my second to last quarter of school and I am set to graduate with a Bachelors of Art degree. My graphic design teachers and upperclassmen G.D. students say my portfolio looks very good. My question is, if I graduate with the BA (General Arts) degree and Spanish (double major) and have a good portfolio, would it matter that I don't have the actual Graphic Design degree? I mean, doesn't your work speak for itself?

Of course you can be a graphic designer without the degree in graphic design. There is a marked difference between plain art and graphic design though, but there have been numerous people who have made successful careers of graphic design without so much as an art degree.
