Is computer Programming a big part of a BS Information Technology?
Asked by piodesimo
I love computers, but I hate programming? I was told that a degree in Information technology did not require computer programming at all, but I should have some understanding of it, and my question is how much?

Yes, with a BS in IT, you can seek a number of IT jobs that will not require programming. But in your coursework you have to do quite a bit of programming. This step is required because even though you will be seeking non-programming positions such as Business Analyst, Network Specialist, etc., you will need to have an understanding of software issues to do these jobs well. For example, you will not be an expert in network security unless you have a solid understanding of how software works. In order to help you gain that understanding, your coursework would involve programming classes. The idea is unless you do it, you will not get a feel for it. If you are really into IT, I recommend that you give yourself fully to those programming classes and assignments. This will help you later on in your (non programming) jobs.
