Asked by worldhelper5
I am applying to a security guard training course and I just want some input on the field any thing at all. Like what the job does, what the starting salary wages may be, other opportunities through the field. Anything will be greatly appreciated.

It's a pretty wide field. the pay can range from just barely above minimum, to pretty good pay. The assignments can vary, many are temporary, some are permanent. Your uniforms can vary according to company policy and job assignment. Your hours can vary, security isn't just "night watchman". Your training can vary from simple and quick, to very detailed and technical, depending on which assignments you get. You may or may not carry a weapon, some states require cleet certification, most require special arms training. Some companies train you for "hands on" apprehension, some require only observe and report tactics.
You can do everything from bank guard, patrolling apartment complexes, hospital security, department stores, clubs, events, the possibilities are endless. I really enjoyed it when I worked as a security guard.

I'm a scheduler for a security company. Started as an officer,
I think any security training course is kind of a waste of money. There was one set up in the City I live in and the companies would rather not hire people who have gone through the course.
My advice is call a few security companies and see what they say before taking it. Most companies will base your opportunities with experience through them or another security company not a party not involved in providing security
The job is very easy, mostly providing access control and customer service. Starting salary should be just a little above working at a fast food joint.
I found that if you can join the mobile unit. There is more opportunity for the managers to see you and get to know you.
