How should I get introduced to the restaurant business?
Asked by ragosh04
Hello all, Im a 23 year old guy who is interested in getting into the restaurant business, possibly managing or owning my own restaurant in the near future. I have always been interested in the food/restaurant business. I have a family background in it, but I am not really sure where i should start. Any ideas or tips?? Any help would be great. Thanks!

start waiting tables or working in a kitchen. More then likely you will never manage a restaurant without have experience on the floor and if have never had experience working the floor or in a commercial kitchen then you have no business owning one.

You can start as a waiter or go to cooking school or even get tons of experience as a cook in the Military.

To run a restaurant business you must know basically how to make the food yourself, because the chefs would blackmail you and make unfair demands if you are unable to step into his shoes when your whole restaurant is full of customers. If you already have some restaurant experience and have the capital, you might think about getting a restaurant franchise so that you don't have to start everything from scratch, and they provide you with some training too. Otherwise get any job at the kitchen, that's where the core of the business is. Any one can become a server, not everyone can work at the kitchen.
