What's a fair amount of time to give when quitting a nanny job?
Asked by Carahpants
I've been a nanny for this family with just a baby for 3 months and now I need to move. I really love my job and I don't want to make the family angry by bailing with only a week or two notice. What do you think is a fair amount of time so they aren't angry and can find a replacement?

Best Answer:
If you allow 4 weeks this will give the family time to advertise, interview and transition a new nanny. This way you can help them out with the process too.

Because you are dealing with someone's child and that is always a sticky situation you should allow them 3-4 weeks. This will allow them time to transition a new nanny in. They will have time to interview and possible "try" a nanny out while you are there.

You have two choices: 1. Just give them two weeks notice. 2. Discuss your leaving and workout a departure date. The second is best because it shows that you are cooperative and that you warrant a good reference. HOWEVER, if you feel abused or threatened, leave now!
