Are Americans going to be able to get the jobs that have been lost?
Asked by Armond B
If I'm big business and having enough profits that i can expand again. Why would i hire Americans in factories again? Americans still can't compete with South East Asia in wages and benefits. I don't have to worry about Asian Unions bothering me or environmental laws or labor laws. What is my motivation to re-hire American workers over say Indians or Chinese Workers? Are our jobs gone forever? I say this as a concerned American. wondering if I'll have to move to get a job.

This is a serious issue, you are totally right. I am the next generation and am concerned. Hopefully, Obama will try to entice big companies to bring their factories over here again. It is really quite sad how few factories we do have. Maybe you should (if you can) go back to college (just to be on the safe side). It's always good to have a back up plan. =) Maybe go to your local career center and ask what other jobs you could do if your job went overseas. Hope I helped some. =)

I wouldn't hold my breath. Business operate for profit, and cheap labor is always more profitable, so the trend will continue in that direction, like it or not. Businesses don't care about creating job, it's what they're netting at the end of the month that counts. But hey, that's life.

Unfortunately we as Americans are getting pushed into more knowledge based jobs. At the pace we are losing our lower end jobs the quicker we need to become more specialized as workers. Problem is we need more education and education is more expensive to get and standards in k-12 grades is dwindling.

we will outsource until the next dominant group catches up and exceeds the white european dominance in the world economy. the closet would be the N11 group and the BRIC's. After them we will see a far more wealthy and advanced ASIA and EASTERN EUROPE. Even exceeding WEST EUROPE and USA. CANADA has already been overtaken by a handful of countries. The middle economies are expected to take over the ranks of the G8 powers by mid century. They will outpace the current G8 and build a security to hold them in financial superpowerdom for a much longer time than we have managed to secure. We never know. HDI and per capita will only grow and we americans will live better safer healthier more enjyoable lifestyles thanks to the rising economies now. We'll still be behind world though at that time.

Yeah, they gone. It's not just overseas, but in America. In manufacturing plants, Asians are harder workers. They get paid the same, work harder, and complain less. There is reverse racism now where white managers look at whites and wont' think of them as hard workers. Same with Hi-Tech companies where Asians and Indians are everywhere.
