Career Questions and Answers
Would you give up your dream career if your job made you feel insignificant?
Asked by ♥ Kyle ♥
I am working as a preschool teacher which i have always wanted to do but where i work isnt very supportive and neither are the parents. The work in extremely demanding and the parents are more needy and expecting so much that you cant do by yourself. So now i am considering a career change involving tech support and web building which i think i will be good at with a little training. Would you go for the career change or stick to what you love?

Sometimes "dream careers" aren't what we think they are. There's a reason why ceos and doctors leave their careers and change fields, they encounter problems that they didn't think they would have when they were students in college.
Have you tried getting a job at another school or going to teach at a private school? Sometimes its not the field, but the people at our old jobs. If you really do want to change then I think you should go for it. I also think that dream careers change. So don't beat yourself up about it.
If it were me, I would just do what made me happy. I think you need to figure out if you want to stick to teaching despite all the demands and try another school, or if your field is typically stressful then you should probably change careers.

I have been in your shoes. I worked in a preschool when I was first married and thought that is what I wanted to do but after a year of frustrating kids, parents and staff, I decided that was not for me. I still love working with kids but career wise it was not for me. I chose to leave and change careers. I did that a couple of times until I finally found something that has given me the opportunity to work from home and make good money while playing and caring for my children. If you are interested I would be happy to share with you the info on the company I work with. Maybe working from home is the change you need. Just click on my icon and contact me.
Good Luck!

Instead of shucking the dream career altogether just because of a few bad apples, if the school won't back you up, perhaps switching school districts would be a good change of pace. Or if you don't feel you're up to that either, maybe you could start your own nursery/daycare center. This way YOU'D be your own boss, you make the rules and you set the limits of what you can and will not do. It's something to think about.
Also, there's nothing wrong with switching careers either, but I'd give the one you've got just one more try. You know you've always got other options to fall back on but you might be kicking yourself later if you don't give it your all. Good luck.
