Which restaurant job pays the most?
Asked by bsizemo2
I saw that Ruby Tuesday was hiring for almost every position in my area. Whenever I talked to a manager about which position to apply for, he said put down anything other than head chef and we will train you. So my question is, which job would pay me the most?
Host, server, line cook, prep cook, etc?
Also, how much money would I make at each position?
Thanks!

Host is the one you DON'T want to take...this job doesn't really go anywhere, and tends to get less hours than others...its usually filled by high school girls who only want to work a few hours a week and shifts are usually 3 or 4 hours long at the most. You can expect to make minimum wage, or within a dollar of it, as a host.
Server is a good job if you are being trained for it in house. Usually, this requires experience, and experience as a server will gaurantee you a job anytime you need it as all restaurants are looking for great Servers. You can expect to make $4 or less an hour + tips. The reason you are paid so little is because you will make a good amount in tips...working at Ruby Tuesday, you can expect to make around $40 - $50 a night on a weeknight as a beginning server. The better and faster you are, the more money you will make. Definitely take this job if you are a people person.
Line Cook / Prep Cook is also a good job to take experience-wise. You generally make the most money working as a cook at restaurants, and experience will get you far...many career chefs move up to high earning chef jobs through experience, and its great to start at a young age. Again, a cook generally makes the most money in a restaurant. Line Cooks make general dishes and are usually paid more than Prep Cooks who make side dishes and appetizers.
Which position you choose to go for is based on which position sounds right to you...hopefully the descriptions above will help you choose

Server would more than likely pay more because of the tips.
